On Saturday, March 30th at around 8:00pm I joined two of my best friends, Pedro and Laura, to dinner at this little local place called Mom’s Kitchen. They let me know that their good friends, Andy and Sandra, and their youngest daughter Sofia, would also be joining them for dinner. I had heard of Andy and Sandra from the great stories Pedro had shared with me. I didn’t know much else. I knew that Andy had cancer. And I knew they were good people.
I remember being introduced and how I immediately felt like I’d known them for years. I saw the goodness in their eyes and felt a connection to them that I can’t really put into words. I will never forget that moment, during dinner, I heard God calling, and I knew that I was about to embark on an amazing blessing, but I didn’t know what it was at that time.
In the very few months that have passed I have seen the outpouring of love from hundreds of people, I have reconnected with so many wonderful friends, I have met amazing new friends, I have been honored and blessed to sing for an amazing human being to bring him peace and comfort. And I will always regard those moments as the most important “performances” of my life. And I’ve seen how much brighter we’ve made this world in a few short months because of him.
We are in the company of angels. We just have to open our eyes, hearts, and minds to becoming aware of them on earth. I was blessed to have met a man who was filled with so much love for God, love for others, and love for his beautiful family that it poured out of him and overflowed to everyone he met.
“I love you very very much”
were the last words I was blessed to hear him say to me. And I only hope he knows how much love I have for him and his beautiful family. I miss him terribly and my heart aches for his wife Sandra, his children, the rest of his wonderful family and of course his friends. The ones he knew closely and the ones that were touched by his battle with cancer that he might have never met. And of course the doctors, nurses, and health professionals he came in contact with.
I cannot thank all of you enough for the love, the support, and the prayers you gave to this dear man on earth and to his family. And I cannot thank our dear God for trusting me and giving me the blessing to be a light for one of my brothers in Christ.
I love you Andy and I promise to live out the words you shared on July 17th in your hospital bed while you witnessed Daniella and Christopher get married.
“....The only way to get through this world is with God, without God we are all a mess. Put God in everything you do. Only with God, remember that, it’s only with God...” - Andy Nicolaou
Andy, you let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. And our Father has called you home. Well done my good and faithful servant.
I love you my friend.
